Map_India_Bhopal_City.gif The plant was an American-owned Union Carbide Pesticide Plant which had an accident with pesticide which escaped from a chemical plant in the central Indian city of Bhopal, killing hundreds of people. The accident Bhopal_Disaster.jpgcaused a deadly cloud of lethal gas to float from the factory over Bhopal, which is home to more than 900,000 people. Chaos & panic broke out in the city and surrounding areas as tens of thousands of people attempted to escape. More than 20,000 people had required hospital treatment. Estimates say that 50,000 people were treated in the first few days suffering terrible side-effects. Even now it still has poisonous gas in the air and many people still live in the shanty towns alongside the chemical plant & thousands more living in the old town.
